This is by far my most frequently asked question- and it's a good one! It can be overwhelming to pick out a whole wardrobe for your session. At the end of the day, you need to wear what's most comfortable to you to be photographed in. Here's a few things to remember-
SHAPE: Remember that lose fitting clothing suggest a more relaxed mood while more form fitting outfits can make things feel a tad more formal- both are great!
TEXTURE: Natural textures that are found in linen, knit pieces, and denim are great ways to elevate an outfit. Floral patterns are wonderful to break up solid colors, but it is best to have one person wear a pattern to avoid too much visual noise.
SHOES: Shoes absolutely can make an outfit and they are very much overlooked. I always suggest shoes to remain as neutral as possible so black or brown shoes may be best.
COLOR: Color is the very first thing you will want to consider. I will be the first to say that you cannot go wrong with neutral and earthly tones across the board. Most of my sessions are outdoor sessions and neutrals paired with our great Michigan outdoors is always fabulous. White. beige, subtle pastels and muted greens all work in any setting. For seniors, a pop of color is always fun- After all, it is just you in these photos! For families, Another thing you’ll want to consider is how these will work on your walls. It may seem silly to coordinate your family photo outfits to go with your living room but it really does make a difference if you are looking to put these photos somewhere in your home.
